VIDEO - ONE SUSPECT CHARGED AND ONE OUTSTANDING AFTER OFFICER STRUCK DURING AUTO THEFT INVESTIGATION

One man has been charged and one is outstanding after an officer was struck by a vehicle during an auto theft investigation in the City of Toronto.

On April 30, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., investigators with the York Regional Police Auto Cargo Theft Unit (ACTU) and the Integrated Property Crime Task Force located two stolen vehicles in the area of Overlea Boulevard and Thorncliffe Park Drive.

With assistance from the Canine Unit, ACTU moved to arrest the two suspects. One suspect was arrested after a short foot pursuit. The second suspect entered a vehicle and drove at police, striking both a police vehicle and an officer. The suspect crashed the vehicle into a nearby building and fled on foot.

Thankfully, the officer was not seriously injured. He was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and was released a short time later.

Anyone with information on this suspect’s identity is asked to contact police immediately.

  • Male
  • Brown skin
  • Thin build
  • Approximately 5’8”
  • Black hair

Charged:

  • Ahmed ABDUL-WASEE, 18, of Toronto

 

Charges:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle x2
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x3
  • Trafficking Property Obtained by Crime x2
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking x2
  • Possess an Automobile Master Key x2
