Investigators with York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a man in connection with four shootings at cinemas across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), including York Region.
On January 24, 2024, police were called to a theatre in the area of Highway 7 and East Beaver Creek, in Richmond Hill, after an employee arrived for work and found the glass front entry doors had been shot. The same day, police in Vaughan responded to a similar call at a theatre in the area of Highway 7 and Weston Road.
Investigators believe the same suspects are involved in both occurrences in York Region and in similar shootings that occurred at cinemas in Toronto and Peel Region on the same night.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, a suspect was charged. Further suspects are being sought and the investigation is ongoing.
