UPDATE – SECOND DEGREE MURDER CHARGES LAID IN DEATH OF MISSING MARKHAM WOMAN

Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit have laid Second Degree Murder charges in the death of Ying ZHANG.

On Monday, July 29, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m., members of the Search and Rescue Team located human remains while conducting a ground search in the area of Palestine Road and Fenel Road, in the City of Kawartha.

The Office of the Chief Coroner has positively identified the deceased as Ying ZHANG.

Charges against Changlin YANG, 26, of East Gwillimbury, have been upgraded to Second Degree Murder and Indignity to Dead Body.

The investigation is ongoing.

Investigators previously released images of the accused and of a suspect vehicle, a white Ford van, seen in the area of Woodbine Avenue and Steelcase Road at the time of Zhang’s disappearance, 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024. A suspect was also seen with a large, green wheeled bin.  

Investigators are seeking additional witnesses who were in this area at the time or who may have seen the suspect or vehicle in the area of Kirkfield in Kawartha Lakes.
