THREATS MADE TO JEWISH INSTITUTES ACROSS YORK REGION

On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at approximately 10:00 a.m., York Regional Police received a report of a threatening mass e-mail targeting Jewish institutes across Canada. Jewish institutes within York Region were included in this e-mail threat.

While no specific locations were identified in the e-mail, officers attended multiple locations in York Region and confirmed there was no threat to public safety. The investigation is still in its infancy and we will be continuing to monitor the situation. Officers are conducting additional patrols in the areas around Jewish institutes and places of worship throughout the region.

York Regional Police takes these matters seriously and is reminding the community we will not tolerate any form of hate crime or hate/bias incidents. All reports of hate crime or hate/bias incidents will be investigated thoroughly. If you witness or have been the victim of a hate crime or hate/bias incident, we encourage you to report it to police immediately.
