Posted on Monday June 03, 2024

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking additional suspects following two separate carjacking attempts in the City of Vaughan.

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 11:40 p.m., police attended a plaza in the area of Norwood Avenue and Jane Street for a report of an attempted carjacking.

Officers learned that the victim was in their vehicle at the intersection of Norwood Avenue and Jane Street. Two suspects walked up to the vehicle and tried to open the car door. One of the suspects appeared to be holding a silver handgun.

The victim managed to flee the scene toward a commercial plaza in the area. The suspects could not be located when officers arrived.

On Saturday, June 1, 2024, shortly before 5 p.m., two victims were entering their vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Jane Street and Rutherford Road. Two masked suspects approached and one suspect attempted to open the driver’s door and appeared to be brandishing a knife. The suspect demanded the victim hand over the car keys and to get out of the vehicle.

A second suspect approached the front passenger door, held it open and gestured he had a firearm. The suspect demanded the car keys and threatened to shoot the victims.

An off-duty police officer intervened and the suspects fled toward a local mall. There were no injuries.

The one suspect was located a short time later and taken into custody. A 15-year-old male youth, of Vaughan, was charged with both attempted carjackings.

See attached for the list of charges and outstanding suspect information.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone with video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident.
