VIDEO - CHARGES LAID AFTER ATTEMPTS TO FLEE POLICE

Posted on Friday July 12, 2024

York Regional Police has charged two men after a suspect travelling at high rates of speed in a white Lamborghini Urus attempted to flee from police.

On Sunday, July 7, 2024, at approximately 12:50 a.m., members of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) observed the Lamborghini traveling at speeds in excess of 200 kilometres an hour on Highway 407 near Dufferin Street, in the City of Vaughan. The York Regional Police Air Support Unit (ASU) took over observations for the safety of officers and other drivers on the road.

The vehicle was followed to a residential street in the area of Leslie Street and Summerdale Drive, in the City of Markham. When the ERU attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect took off from officers, however struck a tire deflation device that had been deployed by the Canine Unit. The vehicle continued to attempt to evade officers despite losing a tire while driving on Highway 407. The suspect was followed to an apartment complex in the area of Red Maple Road and Oneida Crescent, in the City of Richmond Hill. Uniformed officers attempted to block in the vehicle, however the suspects proceeded to purposely drive into marked cruisers and escaped.

ASU members maintained observations of the vehicle as it continued west on Highway 407. The vehicle was followed to an industrial area in the City of Brampton, where the suspect exited the Lamborghini and tried to flee the area in an accomplice’s car. As ERU moved to effect the arrest, the second suspect attempted to drive away, running over an officer’s foot. The vehicle was stopped and both suspects were taken into custody.
