WOMAN CHARGED FOLLOWING FATAL COLLISION IN MARKHAM

Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Collision Investigation Unit are seeking witnesses and have charged a diver, following a fatal motor vehicle collision in the City of Markham.

On November 11, 2024 at approximately 7:45 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of Highway 7 East and Reesor Road. Through investigation it was learned that a sport utility vehicle (SUV) had crossed the centre line striking a hatchback travelling in the opposite direction.

The 68-year-old male driver of the hatchback suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced on scene.

The passenger of the hatchback was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the SUV was arrested and transported to hospital with serious injuries. 

CHARGED:

  • Carolyn NIELSEN, 42, of the City of Kitchener

CHARGES:

  • Dangerous Operation Causing Death
  • Dangerous Operation Cause Bodily Harm
  • Impaired Operation Cause Death
  • Impaired Operation Cause Bodily Harm

Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, and to anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the collision, to please come forward.
