Meeting the needs of the community through an increased police presence

York Region residents can expect increased presence throughout the region as we approach the one-year anniversary of the events of October 7, 2023.

Officers will conduct increased foot and mobile patrols near faith-based institutions, schools and community centres.

Additionally, police will be available at two command posts operating in the community until Saturday, October 12, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The command posts will be staffed by York Regional Police diversity officers, who will be on site to support the community and address any concerns.

One command post will be stationed at the corner of Bathurst Street and Clark Avenue, near the Promenade Shopping Centre. The other will be a mobile unit operating throughout Vaughan, Richmond Hill and Markham, at the following locations:

Hate has no place in York Region

York Regional Police is reminding the community that we will not tolerate any form of hate crime or the threat of violence against anyone. All reports of hate crime or hate/bias incidents will be investigated thoroughly.

If you witness, or have been the victim of a hate crime or hate/bias incident, report it to police immediately.

Anyone looking to report a crime or outline a concern in their community should call the non-emergency line at 1-866-876-5423 or speak to an officer at a command post or at their local district station.

See something? Hear something? Report it to police

If you have information about a crime, or if you have seen someone commit a crime, police need to know about it. Any criminal act in our region must be reported immediately to York Regional Police.

If you witness an emergency or a crime in progress, or know of a serious crime that has just occurred, call 9-1-1.

If you are reporting a crime with no suspect or when no suspect is present, or wish to report another non-emergency event, call the non-emergency line at 1-866-876-5423.

Security Camera Registry

The Security Camera Registry gives members of the community the option to let York Regional Police know they have installed residential or commercial security cameras which may assist police if a crime occurs later in that area. It helps to expedite an investigation when officers are searching for available surveillance footage from a home or business.
