Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are appealing for witnesses following two sperate arsons in the City of Markham.
On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at approximately 4 a.m., police responded to reports of a fire outside a business in the area of Green Lane and Guardsman Road. Police located three vehicles fully engulfed in flames and damage to the associated business. The fire was extinguished by Markham Fire and it was determined that an accelerant had been used to set the fire intentionally.
On Monday, January 27, 2025 at approximately 5 a.m., a second fire occurred at a separate address in the area of Green Lane and Guardsman Road. Sixteen vehicles were damaged by the fire and an accelerant was used to feed the flames.
In both incidents the buildings were unoccupied and there were no injuries.
Each incident is being investigated individually and while the arsons did occur in close proximity to each other, there is no evidence to directly link them.
