ARRESTS MADE FOLLOWING KIDNAPPING IN MARKHAM

A victim has been safely located and three men have been charged by the York Regional Police Homicide Unit following a kidnapping in the City of Markham.

On Monday, October 7, 2024, at approximately 3:25 p.m., the victim was at a commercial plaza in the area of Steeles Avenue and Ferrier Street. The victim was confronted by three suspects and forced into a dark-coloured Hyundai Santa Fe with Ontario licence plate CTKC 540.

On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, shortly after 3 a.m., three suspects were taken into custody and the victim was located with minor injuries in the area of Jane Street and Black Creek Drive in the City of Toronto.

Charged:

  • Evan GURDON FERLIAS, 23, City of Toronto

  • Junior Daniel TALBERT, 19, City of Toronto

  • Osei-Jelani JOYCE, 22, Town of Midland

Charges:

  • Kidnapping

  • Forcible Confinement

  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (GURDON FERLIAS only)

At the time of his arrest, GURDON FERLIAS was out on a probation order for unrelated charges.

The suspect vehicle has yet to be located. The licence plate observed on the suspect vehicle is not registered to the Hyundai Santa Fe.

This was a targeted incident and there is no threat to public safety. The investigation is still ongoing.
