Investigators with the York Regional Police Financial Crimes Unit have charged an 81-year-old man with fraud and are urging any additional victims to come forward.
The investigation began in May 2024, after the victim did not receive funds owed to them following a business transaction in December 2023. Over $500,000 was entrusted to the suspect, who was acting as the victim’s real estate lawyer.
After a period of time, the victim failed to receive the money and reported it to police.
After a lengthy investigation, Ping-Teng TAN, was charged.
Investigators are releasing his photograph as they believe there may be additional victims due to his position as a real estate lawyer.

- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
