Posted on Wednesday December 18, 2024

Thanks to the swift, co-ordinated efforts of the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit, with the assistance of the Air Support Unit and Canine Unit, two adults and two youths have been charged following a jewelry store robbery in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, shortly after 3:30 p.m., police responded to a commercial robbery at a jewelry store in the area of Yonge Street and Levendale Road. It was reported that three male suspects were using hammers to smash glass cases.

After stealing a quantity of jewelry, the suspects fled in a silver sport utility vehicle driven by a fourth suspect.

One employee received minor injuries after being assaulted by one of the suspects.

Utilizing the York Regional Police Air Support Unit helicopter, Air2, to assist with the investigation, the suspect vehicle was located traveling into the City of Toronto. The vehicle parked at an apartment complex in the area of Highway 27 and Finch Avenue and the suspects fled into a wooded area. Shortly after, all four suspects were arrested and the vehicle used was confirmed to be stolen.

Video from Air2 showing the arrest of the suspects can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/DfmO9k78beo

Of the four suspects charged, Marlando MITCHELL, 24 of Brampton, and the two youths, were out on a combined 10 release orders at the time of the incident. One of the youths was also on probation.

See the attachment below for the list of charges.

“The teamwork demonstrated by York Regional Police is a testament to the professionalism and commitment our officers have in pursuing individuals who commit violent acts in our communities,” states Police Chief Jim MacSween. “Of the four suspects arrested, one adult and two youths were out on release orders.
