Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged one man and are seeking additional suspects after officers disrupted an attempted auto theft in the Town of Stouffville.
On Friday, December 20, 2024, at approximately 2:10 a.m., officers responded to the area of Ina Lane and Mostar Street due to reports of a vehicle theft in progress. The victim contacted police to advise that someone was attempting to steal his Lexus GX460. The suspect fled as police arrived on scene.
Officers located a suspect who fled on foot in the area of the offence. He was placed under arrest and found to be in possession of a key fob programmer device.
Officers also observed the suspect vehicle, a grey Mercedes sedan, fleeing the area.
The theft was unsuccessful and the victim’s vehicle was damaged, but was not stolen.

The investigation is ongoing.
Investigators are seeking any additional video surveillance from the area or anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam video on the roadways at that time. Anyone who has not yet spoken to police is asked to please come forward.
