FIVE ARRESTED, TWO SOUGHT AFTER ARSONS IN NEWMARKET AND AURORA

Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have arrested five suspects and are seeking an additional two, in relation to arsons in the Towns of Newmarket and Aurora.

On Thursday, February 6, 2025 at approximately 11 p.m., police responded to the area of George Street and Davis Drive in Newmarket after receiving a report of a fire. Three suspects had forced their way into an mechanic shop and used an accelerant to start a fire.

On Sunday, February 9, 2025, at approximately 10:15 p.m., police responded to the area of Edward Street and Metcalfe Street in Aurora for the report of an arson. Two suspects broke into an autobody shop and used and accelerant to start a fire. It has since been determined the two incidents are directly related.

Through investigation police identified and arrested three adults and two youths in connection with the arsons. Four search warrants were executed at residences in the City of Toronto and a loaded firearm was recovered.

Investigations have identified an additional suspect, DANISH, 37, of the City of Toronto, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Police are seeking public assistance in locating him.

Police are also appealing to the public for assistance in identifying one additional outstanding suspect.

Both outstanding suspects are encouraged to seek legal council and surrender themselves to police.

The investigation is still ongoing and the incidents are believed to be targeted.
