SUSPECTS SOUGHT IN MARKHAM VEHICLE ARSONS

Investigators with the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking suspects for two separate arsons that occurred at commercial plazas in the City of Markham.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, at approximately 1 a.m., police responded to reports of several vehicles on fire near an autobody shop in the area of Laidlaw Boulevard and Heritage Road. A lone suspect was observed setting fire to three vehicles in the area before fleeing in a dark-coloured sedan.

On Saturday, June 8, 2024, at approximately 2 a.m., police responded to another incident of multiple vehicles on fire near a different autobody shop, also in the area of Laidlaw Boulevard and Heritage Road. A single suspect was observed carrying jerry cans to the area of the fire and then leaving in a dark-coloured sedan.


Investigators are working to determine if the incidents are linked. The investigations are ongoing.

Police are appealing to anyone with information or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area to come forward. Investigators would also like to speak with anyone with video surveillance or dashcam footage in the area around the time of these incidents.
