Thanks to the swift efforts of frontline officers, in coordination with the York Regional Police Air Support Unit, seven suspects, including a 13-year-old, have been arrested and one suspect is still outstanding following a violent home invasion in the City of Vaughan.
On Friday, November 22, 2024, shortly after 9 p.m., officers responded to an armed home invasion in the area of Ventura Way and Beverley Glen Boulevard. As officers arrived, the home invasion was still in progress, with multiple suspects inside the residence and several others waiting in two idling vehicles, later determined to be stolen.
The suspect vehicles attempted to flee, resulting in collisions with responding police vehicles. The occupants of the stolen vehicles fled on foot after the collisions and one suspect was quickly taken into custody. As officers were attempting to arrest the other fleeing suspects, the first suspect fled, while handcuffed, and has not been located.
In total, four of the suspects were taken into custody from the two stolen vehicles. Three suspects were arrested within the residence.
A victim was located suffering from serious injuries and treated at a local hospital. There were no injuries to the officers involved.
Investigators believe this to be a targeted incident.
The eighth suspect is still outstanding. He is described as male, wearing all black clothing and was handcuffed to the rear.
Investigators are reminding anyone that assists the outstanding suspect, who fled while handcuffed, could face a charge of Accessory After the Fact.
A list of charges has been attached.
At the time of the offence, Tyler SMALL, 18, and a 17-year-old male were each on a release order. Another 17-year-old male was found in contravention of his Y.C.J.A. sentence and a 13-year-old male was on two release orders.
“This is another example of offenders being out on bail while committing serious criminal offences in our communities. Out of the seven offenders arrested, four were out on bail for prior offences and have now been charged for breaching their conditions,” says Police Chief Jim MacSween. “The safety of our communities and the well-being of our officers requires a bail system that addresses repeat violent offenders effectively while upholding public trust.”
