MARKHAM MAN CHARGED WITH TWO SEXUAL ASSAULTS

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit have charged a man after two sexual assaults in the City of Markham.

On Thursday, October 3, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., police responded to the area of Markham Road and Highglen Avenue for the report of a sexual assault. The victim was walking in the area when the suspect, who was unknown to her, approached her and touched her for a sexual purpose. The suspect was located by investigators that evening, charged with Sexual Assault and was held for bail before being released with conditions.

On Saturday, October 12, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., police responded to the area of Denison Street and Cartmel Drive for the report of a sexual assault. The accused was known to the victim and he gained access into her residence. While the two were sitting on the couch the suspect sexually assaulted the victim before being interrupted and fled on foot. Officers quickly located and arrested the suspect.

Investigators are releasing an image of the suspect as they believe there may be more victims and they are encouraging them to come forward.

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.
