A Vulnerable Sector Check provides the screening of individuals who intend on working or volunteering with vulnerable people. This type of screening is required for the following types of positions, among others:

A vulnerable person is defined as a person who, because of their age, disability, or other circumstances, whether temporary or permanent, are in a position of dependence on others, or are otherwise at a greater risk than the general population of being harmed by a person in a position or authority or trust relative to them.
A Vulnerable Sector Check will provide the following information:

Only residents of York Region can obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicants may need to provide proof of residency.
A volunteer is someone who performs a service but receives no compensation for doing so, other than an allowance for expenses or an honorarium. This excludes anyone receiving some other form of credit, such as academic credit or fulfilling a sentence requirement.
All applicants applying for a volunteer position must provide a letter from the agency where they intend to volunteer, indicating that the position is a volunteer, non-paid position. The volunteer letter must also:
